Red sits at his desk and reminisces as he looks at the envelope which lies open on his desk.
At the pictures.
Damn!!!
Again and again.
This shit continues to happen.
His mind goes back in time to when he had a family or the American version of it anyway.
Two children and a woman...some land. A life.
He had loved that woman with all his heart and his version of the story always ended with them growing old together.
Playing with their grandchildren together.
He remembered the day that had all come crashing down around him.
She had cheated before and Red had expected it.
Coming from where he had come from he had helped many women to cheat in his youth. He also knew the tricks that women used. He had women friends growing up and they taught him plenty of the tricks used by women to fool men.
He had also received lessons from his dad about women.
One thing about growing up in bars and holes in the walls you learn a lot about women.
His dad always had taken any opportunity to teach him about women but the one thing that had been drilled in him from his youth was the idea that you never hit a woman.
It was so deeply ingrained that he had never in fact hit a woman.
Red sighs and sits back and places his hands together and thinks back to another time in his life.
He hears his mothers voice as she warned him about his ex time and time again and he also remembers wanting this life so much that he ignored her.
Reds mother was a little different in a lot of ways and she practiced a lot of the old ways. The magic and mysticism of the old world. Red had been schooled in these arts and had turned his back on them, yet they were also a part of him.
His dreams were sort of prophetic and he also just knew things, like when people died that he knew. When a woman close to him was pregnant.
From his youth his mother had warned Red of his power, he was the first man in his family to inherit these abilities in 7 generations.
He thinks of the days he spent with his children when they were younger and how he had alway tried to be the rock of their lives.
He remembers back to when his ex went north for the summer and took his kids away. He remembers how hollow he had felt. How he knew when she had cheated as it came to him in a dream and when he called her the next day and told her that he knew, she had broke down and told him it was true.
He had lost so much weight that summer that when his children saw him they did not know who he was at first.
He had accepted her back.
One night he began to have troubling visions and he began to pay more attention to his ex and had found out that she was getting out of bed late at night and early in the morning.
He walked into the bathroom on one of these nights and caught her on the phone before she could give warning he had snatched the phone and the voice he heard on the other line had hit him like a ton of bricks.
It was his best friend from high school and he and Red had grown up together in the same projects.
Red thinks about how angry he had felt how betrayed and he had smashed the phone on the floor and told her to leave his house.
He would not let her take the kids and she left and came back with her father and grandmother and still he told them that his kids were going nowhere.
Her father was also Reds friend and he said "Leave them girl you know he loves them children."
Red had kept the children for about two weeks when his mom called him, bt this time he was in so much mental agony that everything that he did he did as a robot.
She heard his voice and knew...she just knew and she told him that his ex had been calling her and that no child should be seperated from its mother if she wanted them and she said you have been a good man Red but you have to be strong now.
When Red had bought his house he had said that it was for his children and he had meant that. Over the next few days Red got things together and talked to his children he wanted them to know... To remember.
He packed his things and called his job, called his mother, and called her and he waited as she came down the road and handed her the keys to the house.
She had tried to talk to him but he knew that he could never trust her again.
Why waste the words?
He walked away and it was 5 years before he saw his children again.
He had ended up right back where it all started. In Georgia.
Red was close to one of his uncles and that who he went to stay with.
His house was deep in the woods and Red needed that he had arrived but he was carrying so much pain that all he wanted to do was lie there day after day.
One day his uncle came in the room and said "Son you think you are the first man to go through this?"
Red looked at his uncles face and instantly he remembers what his uncle has been through. He sees it in his uncles eyes and he overstands.
His uncle waited as Red got up and dressed and they walked out of the door to feed the goats.
It was many years before Red ever fully let a woman get to know him.
All these things ran through Reds mind as he looked at the things that the envelope contained and the implications of these things.
He kind of expected part of this but not all of it and he remembers to thank Dead Meat.
he stands up and walks to the door and tells the soldier on duty to go and get Rosemarie and the Spook and bring them to him.
Minutes later there is a knock on the door and Rosemarie and the Spook enter . They both sut down and Red looks at them as he says "I am going to be away for awhile so I am going to need you two to make sure that things are going according to plan.
Rosemarie looks at him with a bewildered look.
"What do you mean away Red?
"I mean away."
The Spook is Reds right hand man and he knows that something is up and he says "Man Red whats up?
Red looks at him and says "I just have to take care of some personal things thats all."
The Spook looks at him with a question in his eyes but not on his tongue and he asks another. "So who is going with you Red?"
"Nobody and I better not be followed. This is personal."
He looks at them as he says "I mean that."
"I will leave soon and I will leave you instructions when I do."
He dismisses them and the Spook stands to leave but Rosemarie stays seated and Red knows that this is going to get ugly as the Spook walks out of the room and closes the door.
When Rosemarie hears the door close she says "What the fuck do you think you are doing Red? This is no game that you can bow out of at any time...Redddd. She draws out his name and Red feels her frustration in the air.
"Red you are one dumb ass man to be so smart."
You on some stupid shit right now Red. you got that woman working in this building and now you talkin bout leaving and going where? Who knows cause Red is on his own damn planet. well Red you better get ...your... shit... together and wake the hell up. You will take someone with you Red... you hear me. and you better be nice to them."
She stands and walks out of the room and slams the door.
Red sit back in his seat and says "Damn that woman has got some fire."

"Sir there is evidence that there is a massive troop build up about 50 miles to the east of this city and we have been finding out from sources that the government is planning something big. Also from these same sources we have learned that there are some rather high ranking agents of the government arriving every day. From our sources we have also learned that they are bringing in the big guns so to speak. The whole contigency of stealth air craft is being assembled about 300 miles from here. Sir I think this merits our immediate attention."
The white man stands in the chamber where the council is meeting and as he has been speaking the whole council has been llistening to his every word.
Red leans back in his chair with his hands together and appears to be somewhere else but when the man finishes speaking he says "So how long do you think it will be before they attack?"
"Sir I would say anywhere from two weeks to a month."
"Thank you William." Red says as he adjoirns the meeting and tells Shalonda, Velvety and Rosemarie as well as Andrea to follow him and he heads back to his office. They all enter and sit down and Red motions for Andrea to begin marking the minutes... to take notes.
She gets ready and he starts to talk.
"Shalonda you and Velvety need to start preparing the people. We are going to have a massive plan of evacuation. We need to find everywhere that innocent people can lay low until this is over. Make sure that the people know where to go if and when we are attacked. Make sure that these places are stocked and that the children can still be educated and that the sick and elderly are as comfortable as possible. I have all faith and confidence that you can handle this so do me proud."
shalonda and Velvety kick ideas back and forth with Red for awhile before he asks them to leave them to leave the room.
He also asks Andrea to leave and he catches her expression as she looks from him to Rosemarie.
she leaves and closes the door rather hard on her way out. Not a slam but the meaning is there.
He turns to Rosemarie. This is their first time alone together since the hospital and he knows that she has been avoiding him as much as possible.
"Well Rosemarie how are those ladies doing that we sent to the other side?"
Rosemarie looks at him and smiles and he is glad to see that smile. Its been so long.
"Red all of them have inserted themselves and Kiley seems to have hit the jackpot. She is mixing elbows with a high ranking general and has been sending reports daily."
"Cool, thats what we need. Tell her to find out all she can about this troop builup and anything else she can. Rosemarie I want to thank you for all that you have done. How are you doing?"
"I am fine Red but I want to know what you are thinking Red? Bringing that woman in here and you dont know anything about her."
Red cuts her off with his flattened hand as he holds it up.
"Oh hell naw Red I know you just did'nt" she says as she stands and walks up to him. "I am not one of these little minions you got runnin around here Red and you are going to hear what I got to say. You get that, Red?"
He stands there and looks at her and finds that he does not have a damn thing to say.
"She continues "Red you owe the people more than just a part of you Red... pussy comes and goes and many a leader has been misled because of it. i do not want to see that happen to you, so you better get your head out from between her legs and start thinking with it."
She turns and walks away from him and opens the door before she turns around and says "Red I am willing to live for you and I am also willing to die for you." She does slam the door and the sound seems to slap Red it is so sharp.
he sit at his desk and takes the stack of papers that the Spook gave him weeks ago and it is dog eared he has read it so many times as he sighs and tries to figure out how to make this work for him and the movement.
Damn!
Later that day he finds himself in the park with Dead meat again as the children play on the grass not far from where they sit and play a game of chess.
"Son?" Dead meat says as they play.
"Yeah Dead Meat?"
"You ready for whats about to come?"
"Yes."
"You think so hunh?"
"Yes I do."
"You know that the best way to discredit a man is to get him to contradict what he believes in dont you Red?"
"Yes i do."
"You also know that the king who is kept alive and crushed is the best pawn to have right?"
"Yes I do Dead Meat.'
"Red a chessmate is just a trapped king... a captured tool... an aquisition. Just like land, just like slaves. As a matter of fact he makes the best slave because the other slaves start to take his defeat as their own. They lose the power to resist. Red do not become a pawn."
Red moves his piece and says "check; mate in 1."
"I see you been studying son" Dead meat says as he pulls his hat over his eyes and says look under that bag over there Red."
Red get up and goes to the bag that has been lying there since he got there and picks it up.
Underneath it is a brown envelope.
He looks back at Dead Meat who has pulled his hat over his eyes and layed back and Red knows that there is no point in talking anymore today as he turns and walks away.

The next day Red is at headquarters when there is a knock on the door and the Spook enters the room with a stack of papers in his hand.
"Red I checked into that thing for you" he says as he throws the papers down on Reds desk and starts to pace.
"This is a real fucked up situation Red. its a real good thing that we have internet. This coulda been fucked up."
Red puts the papers down and sits back.
"Exactly."
"What you mean exactly Red?"
"I mean it "could" have been fucked up but now we will put it to use.Everything happens for a reason Spook and this can be used to our advantage my brother. Sit down and listen."
Later as they leave the room Red looks up to see Rosemarie walking towards him with Shalonda and Velvety in tow. she has lost weight but she still looks so beautiful.
"Red? What the hell is going on around here. Why in the fuck is that woman in this building" she says under her breath as she points at Andrea who has just walked in the door.
Shalonda and Velvety look at Red like he has just farted and Velvety says "Red you done lost yo damn mind. i never thought you would be pussy whipped but I see I was wrong."
She turns and walks off shaking her head and mumbling.
Red just stands there as Andrea brushes past Rosemarie and Shalonda and inserts herself in his arms.
"Hey baby she says as she kisses him and turns to look at Shalonda and Rosemarie.
The Spook looks at the situation and retreats with haste as the air in the hall seems to stop moving.
Red introduces Andrea to the women who remain and he recognizes the tension...he grew up with three sisters and he knows when he is about to be ganged up on so he opens the door to his room and pushes Andrea inside as He excuses himself from the cutting looks that both Rosemarie and Shalonda are giving him.
When the door closes he pulls Andrea close and kisses her deeply, It is so hard to keep his hands off all that ass.
When they are finished kissing he tells her what he wants from her. She is getting a room a couple of doors down from him and she is to handle his paperwork and his schedule.
She is so happy that she jumps up and hugs him tight and kisses him again and again.
There is a knock on the door and they break apart as he says come in and a soldier enters the room "Red sir they are ready for you.
Red excuses himself from Andreas presence and walk with the soldier down the hall and to the stairs that lead to the basement and enters the studio that has been set up. The screen on the wall shows various leaders from around the world and the thumbnails fill the massive screen.
Red walks up to the mic and starts to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen what we have here is a way to crush the corrupt and crooked system that so many have lived under for so many hundreds of years. That system that so many have suffered under. We stand at the shores of an ocean of possibilities and new beginnings. This is not going to be easy and will involve much bloodshed but in the end we will truly be a united planet.
Over the next month we all will be brainstorming and making plans and sharing them as we get ready to mount this offensive. It is imperative that we keep it a secret that we have this method of communication as long as possible so do what you must to make sure that it is kept just that. A secret." He pauses as he says that and he sees hundreds of heads nodding in agreement on the screen.
There is a period of questions as the leaders exchange ideas before the feed is terminated and Red sits at the stools where he was speaking on the mic and rests before getting up and leaving the room.

Red awakes and even though it has been two weeks since he was shot when he rolls over pain shoots through his shoulder but pain is a friend of his.
He rises and makes his way to his bathroom and performs gusl which is total ablution and prepares himself for prayer. He leaves his room and goes to the chapel  that is located in the building that houses the council. He enters the room and prepares to make salat.
After he completes his salat he leaves the room and goes to the room where the council meets and looks at the maps and diagrams. During the last few days a plan has been formulating in his mind and he is ready to introduce it to the other factions of the movement. It is a very aggressive plan and he wonders if they are ready for it. One thing that he knows is that all who say that they want freedom are not really ready to sacrifice to have it.
During the last two weeks the mission has been to establish better lines of communication and there has been a breakthrough as far as that is concerned. A group of young men from around the world has figured out how to tap into the sattalites that circle the earth without being detected and the movement has aqquired the ability to use the internet. The young programmers have also found a way to run this system on a seperate network that the goverment cant see and Red knows that this will not be a secret for very long so he wants to use it in a very large scale way.
Its time for the movement to move from being reactionary to actionary. To mount an offensive... and it is going to be a concerted effort the world over.
As he he thinks he also thinks about Rosemarie, she is doing better and she wants to attend the meetings but Red has told her to stay in bed and rest but in true Rosemarie fashion she is getting restless.
He also thinks about Andrea,. She is pushing Red to say that he loves her, she wants him to establish a relationship.
Red sighs and leaves the room and walks down the hall to the communications center and sits in front of a camera and starts to record a message which will be broadcast to the leaders of the movement the world over later in the day.
This is going to be the largest offensive ever mounted on this planet and he wants it to go right. It is time for the people to be free from capitalism and the specter of collective slavery that this whole system has spawned.
After he finishes recording he leaves the room and walks away from the building and he quickly loses the guards that trail him. He also knows where the sentries are posted throughout the city and he uses his knowledge to avoid them as well.
he ends up in a large park in the city and he makes his way to where some men sit at tables with chess boards in front of them and he makes his way to a table where an old man sits apparently asleep. He sits down and the man does not even open his eyes as he says "I knew you would come today son."
Red met this man a long time ago and when he met him the other people in the park avoided him. It had taken Red many months to learn that this man played chess and when Red played him he was the best player that Red had ever encountered and he had beaten Red every day for two weeks as they played chess. While he played he talked to Red and made every player on the board come to life as he talked.
Red listened to every word he said as he played him and he had learned that this man had chosen to withdraw from life because of the way he viewed life and the way that many men looked at life.
The man raises his head and looks at him and as always Red is amazed by how clear his eyes are. How they seem to draw him in. The board is set up and they begin to play as the man who goes by the name Dead Meat begins talk.
"I see that you have put your plan into action son. have you accounted for every contingency?"
"Yes I have Dead Meat."
"Are you sure son because sometimes your own pieces can be used againt you if you block yourself in. If you think that they are placed right and they become blocked in or if in fact they are not your piece in the first place."
Red is used to Dead Meat speaking this way and he makes a move on the chessboard as Dead Meat continues to drop science.
"You know the true history of this game right son?"
"Yes I do."
"Then you know that even this game was aqquired through deception... through the loss of life?"
"Yep." he says as he moves another piece."
Red you had better make sure you are checking your pieces he says as he makes a move "Check."
Red moves a piece to block his king and notices that Dead Meat is using the defences he has built up to trap him so that he can not move to protect his king.
He counters and Dead Meat says "Mate in three."
Red looks at the board and sees that this is indeed true and he sits back and light  blunt and passes it to Dead Meat as he says "Red, have you checked all your pieces?"
Red has always wondered how Dead Meat knows the things he does and he wonders how much he really knows but he has also learned to trust his advice.
'Red be careful who you lay with son." he says as he pulls his hat over his eyes and lays back.
Red knows that the conversation is over and he gets up and places a bag of weed on the table for Dead Meat who lets it sit right there.
Thank you my friend he says as he walks away from the table and makes his way back to Andreas apartment.
On the way he lets things play in his mind and when he reaches the building he walk in and uses the key that he has to enter her apartment.
When he enters he is silent as he walk into the bedroom where she is in the closet doing something and he startles her she turn and throws a perfect kick and it almost catches him in his jaw and he falls back in surprise at the force with which she delivers it.
There is a look in her eyes that he has not seen before and it dissapears quickly as she realizes who he is.
WTF???
"Red!!! Andrea exclaims as he looks at her in amazement.
"I am so sorry Red ."
"Damn woman where did you learn that?"
"Oh I have been taking some self defense classes since I was almost raped in that alley."
She walks up to Red and wraps her arms around him.
"I didnt hurt you did I?"
"No, but you did surprise me. That was perfect form."
"Thank you Red." she says as she kisses him. She does not seem to notice that he does not kiss her back.

The doctor looks up starts to speak "Well, your friend in there was kinda lucky fellas... the only thing that the bullet hit was her appendix and part of her small intestines. We got in there and fixed her up but she is gonna need plenty of rest for the next few weeks. The doctor pauses for a minute before he continues. "We are grateful to you for keeping the medical supplies coming sir" He says as he looks directly at Red. "This could have been  much worse situation if you were not doing that. At times I think about how many innocent lives are caught up in this thing, this war and I am reminded that there are no innocents in war... no innocence." He adjusts his glasses and gives them all a look as he says to them. "I hope you succeed, I really do believe that all people should be treated equal. I mean really equal. But thats enough of that. Give your friend time to rest and you can see her. If one of you wants to sit with her you can."
The men agree that it should be Red and he enters the room where Rosemarie lies in the bed with tubes running everywhere and stands by the bed.
He has heard that people can hear when they are unconscious and he starts to talk to Rosemarie. He is tired but he needs to talk to her.
"Rosemarie I am sorry empress for all the things that I have done that were wrong in my life and since you have come into my life you have made me a much better person. I dont know what I would have done if I had lost you today Rosemarie... its like you are a part of me. I would never have had the strength to do the things that I have done in the past few months without you. You have the ability to drive me crazy and make me strong all at the same time woman and I appreciate you for that. I seem to have the ability to hurt so many things that I love that I find it hard to love Rosemarie but I hope you know that I do love you."
Red goes over to the chair that sits by the bed and he lowers his tired body into the chair. H e sits there for awhile until his eyes grow heavy and he falls asleep. He is awakened a couple of times as nurses come in and check on Rosemarie and one of them brings a blanket and covers him.
He has been asleep for a few hours when he hears someone call his name.
"Red."
The voice is a whisper but it has the impact of a bomb as it lands on his eardrums and soaks into his brain. He is awake and he spirngs to his feet as his shoulder cries out in pain.
"Rosemarie?"
She looks so weak as she lies there and Red is amazed that she still manages to look beautiful to him...even if her hair is a mess.
She looks at red and says "What you sorry for?"
He is lost for a minute and then he remembers all the things he said to her when she was unconscious. He wonders how much she heard.
"Damn!"
"Red this has been the most amazing adventure of my life and I would'nt change a thing...well except for that big ol head you got."
Red smiles as a nurse walks in and says "You got to rest honey, dont be lettin this big ol man get you all tired out."
Both red and Rosemarie smile at the nurses joke.
The nurse turns to Red and says "Either you go home or we are going to get you a bed and make you get some rest too. Honey tell your friend to get some rest so you can too."
Rosemarie looks at Red "You heard the boss Red."
He suddenly feels so tired. The little sleep he got in the chair seems to have done nothing for him.
Red walks over to the bed and bends down and kisses Rosemarie on the forehead before he turns and walks out the door and he does not hear the nurse when she says "That man don't know what to do with you does he?"
Red leaves the hospital and is escorted back to HQ where he fills the members of the council in on what is going on.
He goes to his room and takes some painkillers as he sips on green tea and put on some music.
He thinks of the women he has trained and he plans what to do with them. He thinks of andrea and he wonders why she has not come to see him. He is sure that she has heard by now. Gotta check on that. His last thought before going to sleep is his children. He wonders if they know this was all for them.

Red sits on a gurney as Flenardo paces back and forth.
"Man I am gonna kill that mother fucker!"
Red looks at his friend and says "No you are not bro. We are going to find out why he tried to kill me. We are going to get any information he has from him."
Red stands and grimaces as the pain from his shoulder rockets through his body.
The nurse rushes over and tells him to sit down but he pushes past her and walks down the hall with Flenardo by his side. They reach another hallway where the Spook sits haunched on the wall. He sees them and rises.
He looks agitated. He always does.
Red looks at him and says "How is she bro?"
"The bullet hit her in her abdomen Red and they say that they have to go in to see how much damage there is. she is in surgery.
Red knows the rational thing to do is to wait but in his pain and frustration he thinks about running through the door.
He says "Spook what happened was planned and coordinated. We need to find out exactly who set this up and how. Get on that for me bro."
"Got you Red."
"Flenardo."
"Yeah Red."
"I am gonna need you to put together some incursion teams. Find the baddest motherfuckers you got. Put em in units and let them go in and strike terror into these motherfuckers lives. We need to learn as much as we can to know how to fight them. Bro i aint never fought no war before so I need y'alls help bad now."
the men look at each other and it is clear that they will fight for each other till the end.
"Alright... enough of that. Its a good thing that we had an alternate site for the conference and its also a good thing that Shalonda and Velvety knew what we wanted. We are going to have to make sure that there are open lines of communication between all the members of the movement."
The men agree and fall silent as they look at the doors.
It is a long time before anyone comes out.
A male nurse comes down the hall pushing an armchair with wheels and he come to where they are and locks the wheels as he says. "You need to sit down."
Red almost refuses until he realises that he does feel tired and he slumps into the chair.
Ahhhhh.
The nurse brings more chairs and the three friends sit right there in the hall outside the operating room doors.
Red finds his mind wandering and he lets it go back to a time when he was also a teenager and he had seen a man die.
It happened in the peojects where he grew up and the man who killed the other man was his friend as well.
They both were winos and they had been drinking together and trying to kill each other for a long time. they both wore the scars of their battles for all to see.
Red and his friends knew them well , they drank with these old dudes cause they did'nt mind going to get them beer and liquer. Red and his friends also learned how to shoot craps from these old men and had lost plenty of money to them and won plenty from em.
One of the old dudes would get Red and his friends drunk and rob them and they would do the same to him when he passed out. His name was Sam and to Red he seemed like some kind of player wino cause he always had him an old wino woman who took care of him.
A couple of weeks earlier Sam had caught the other wino whose name was James screwing his old lady and had tried to cut his throat and James wore the gruesome scar for everyone to see . He was pissed off. Their houses were only about 75 feet from each other and they saw each other everyday.
In the projects you aint got much, and you dont own nothin so little things mean a lot and James wife had planted flowers on the little patch of dirt in front of her house and the fellas and the little children were determined to stamp them out. The fellas had been drinking with James all day and Sam had sat on his porch and was looking for troubles cause he was missing out on all the liquer that the fellas had bought. He stood up off of his little porch and walked to the patch of dirt where James wife had planted her flowers and started to walk back and forth through them.
James wife walked to the door and began to yell at him and he had yelled back at her.
James stood up out of his chair and called his son.
"Boo!"
"Yessuh daddy?"
"Go get my damn golf club"
Boo was only about 8 years old and he looked up to his dad even though he was a wino.
he ran inside and brought the golf club out and James walked off the porch.
"Niggah get yo ass out my womans flowers" he said as Sam dared him to hit him. James had raised the golf club and as he swung it the head came off. and it fell ineffectually on Sams arm.
"Thats all you got nigahhhh??? He screamed as he started to dance in the flowers. he spun around and aroud until he faced James again and James drew back and plunged the shaft of the golf club into his chest.

Sams eyes had grown wide for a minute as he looked at the handle protruding from his chest and James ripped it from his chest and turned around and dropped it as he walked back to the porch. Sam dropped to his knees and them fell back n the ground. there was little blood but you could hear the air as it whstled in his chest. The fellas stood there and watched. They had no idea what to do and they listened as Sam begged for someone to help him and someone ran out and said an ambulance was on the way. The fellas stood and waited as Sams body began to swell and he still begged for someone to help him. Until his voice grew softer and softer. This was the projects and everyone knew that it would take a long time for the ambulance to come. It had to have a police escort. Finally when Sam was whispering the ambulance pulled up and the drivers walked around like it didnt matter if this man lived or died... as the police yelled and screamed at the people who stood around.
Red turned and walked to the porch where James was sitting and he was mumbling something as his wife stood with her hand on his shoulder.
"I told him I was gonna kill him. I told him I was gonna kill him Red. I told him."
Red is torn from his memories as the doctor walks out of the door and takes off his mask. He is an old white man and its hard to read his face as he opens his mouth.

Today is the culmination of months of planning and has involved a whole lot of intrigue.

There are over 300 leaders of other factions of the movement meeting today and they have come from all over what was the United States and there are delegates from other countries as well.

Christians, Muslims, Rastas and even a Taoist monk are among the delegates and it has been a momentous effort on the part of the movement and its people.

The movement has crippled the governments of every continent and to think it all started with Red.

An idea. 

Red sits in his room and thinks of what he is going to say to these people.

He does not like to write speeches and he is blessed in the fact that when he talks he is able to say what needs to be said.

Flenardo and the Spook stand with him as they pass the blunt between them and get ready to go to the place where they are meeting. It is located on a college campus that the movement controls now and it used to be a rather large bomb shelter.

Shalonda and Velvety walk in and they are dressed so nice that Red almost forgets the fact that they are at war.

They are about to leave when rosemarie enters the room and Reds breath catches in his throat. 

Goddamn!!!

He and Rosemarie have been around each other since the kiss but they have kept it platonic and there now seems to be some sort of barrier between them. An unspoken tension.

She is wearing a blue dress and it does not hide the fact that Rosemarie is fine as hell.

That she has such a nice ass.

Red makes himself look away from her as they walk out of the building and get into the vehicles and Rosemarie climbs into the vehicle which holds Red as well as the Spook and Flenardo.

As they drive through the streets of the city Red looks out of the window and sees children playing in the rubble of war and he watches them as they drive by. One of the children: a boy turns and waves as the convoy passes and Red tells the driver to stop the convoy. 

Red gets out of the vehicle and walks towards the children who stop playing and walk to him. 

He looks at the boy that waved at him and says "Whats your name man."

the boy looks at him with no fear in his eyes and says my name is Kaleb.

It's like the rug has been pulled from under him as the name reverberates in his mind.

"Red looks at the boy and says how old are you little man?"

'I am 11 years old.'

WTF?

Where are your parents?"

"My mother is over there" he says as he points at a building which stands like a lone sentinel in the middle of all the destruction.

"My daddy is a soldier in the movement." When he says this he puffs out his chest and looks at his friends.

Red can tell that they look up to him for this reason.

"What do you want to be when you grow up lil man? Who do you wanna be?"

The boy looks him in his eyes and says "You...I want to be like you."

Red is so taken by emotion that he has to look away for a moment before he tells the children bye and he turns and walks back to his vehicle.

There are tears in his eyes as he walks.

Kaleb.

His son was named that.

He died when he was three.

Red climbs into the vehicle and Rosemarie looks at him as he gets in. It looks like she wants to say something but she just turns her head and looks out of the window.

They arrive at the university and climb out of their vehicles and make their way into the bomb shelter.

It is filled with delegates and Red hears so many languages and dialects that he is startled for a minute.

It still takes a minute for the magnitude of this thing to hit him sometimes.

The room goes silent as he and his council walk in. They make their way to the stage and every eye in the room follows them.

Red walks to the center of the stage and takes the mic from the stand and begins to speak.

"Today as I look out and see this great gathering I am reminded that we do this not for our generation but for the generations to come. We have all lived under the boots of so many govenments that have not cared about us in the least. We have been worked until we die and then our children are worked until they die. We have lived as the gears in a machine that grinds us up and replaces us with new gears time and time again. 

Our resources have been taken away and we linger in the desert of want.

It has long been past the time that we as humans aspired to reach the next level.

We have been grounded by religion and racism as we have been raped and lied to by the people who were placed there to protect us.

Scraping at life as our lives seem to have less and less value.

As things are done to us right in our faces and our voices bear no weight.

Well let me tell you something.

I have seen the future and it is not controlled by the few but by the many.

I have seen the future and it contains a world so beautiful that it will be the envy of the universe.

I have seen the future and in the future I see the scientists working not for govenments but for the people. For the good of us as a whole."

"He reaches to his hip and pulls the Desert Eagle from its holster and holds it in the air as he says. "I have seen a future without these!"

The delegates stand and there is the deafening roar of applause as a man steps from the audience and fires 3 shots in Reds direction. 

Red is hit in the shoulder and he spins as the bullets force knocks him down.

The other bullet hits an aide who stands on the stage.

It hits her in the chest and she falls as blood starts to pour from her wound.

The third bullet catches Rosemarie and Red watches as she falls.

It seems to be in slow motion and he finds himself rising and rushing to her side as the delegates and soldiers swarm the man who fired the shots.

They subdue him and everyone looks to the stage where Red is holding Rosemarie in his arms as Tears roll down his face.
