Red steps into the lobby and Rosemarie meets him head on.
Her eyes are red and it looks as if she has not slept at all.
"Where the hell have you been Red? What kind of leader disappears in the middle of war?"
Red is caught off guard and he just stands there as she yells at him in front of everyone.
It is a minute before he says anything.
"Rosemarie..." he says this in a calm voice and even though she is yelling she instantly stops yelling and looks at him with her hands planted on her hips.
"What???" the venom in her voice is so strong that everyone in the room can sense it.
"Come with me?"
He does not talk as they make their way down the hall and to his room.
As soon as he shuts the door he turns to her and looks into her eyes as he begins to speak.
"Rosemarie, I just needed some time to myself so I took it."
"What kind of time Red?
This question catches him unawares and he does not know what to say.
"Red, answer me."
"Rosemarie what I do in my private time is what I do and I do not have to answer to you or anyone else about it."
"Red you know thats bullshit. Whether you like it or not you have become the symbol of this revolution...its leader. Now you can play with that all you want but if it fails you will be the symbol of its failure as well?"
"Red thinks about this for a moment before he answers her.
"Okay Rose."
"Thats all you got to say? I was up all night worrying about you and thats all you got to say?"
"Yep."
"Red you are an asshole." she says as she turns and walks from the room and slams the door so hard that it sounds like a gunshot.
Red stands there for a minute with his mouth open.
"I wonder what all that was about?" he says as he checks in with his units over the radio and starts to put his plans together.
He is in the room for about a half hour before he feels the vibrations of explosions and he jumps from his seat and puts on his vest and grabs his weapon.
He runs from the room and into the lobby where his troops are standing looking out of the doors at the smoke which is rising from an area about 10 blocks away.
Red jumps into action and he and his troops run from the building and rush to their vehicles.
"Some big shit is goin down!"
They arrive at the scene pretty quickly and there is carnage everywhere and people walk around in bloodied confusion.
They jump from their vehicles and secure the perimeter but from the pattern of the explosions and the evidence they know that this was an airstrike. Good soldiers know and these are indeed good soldiers.
There is the sound of ambulances and people from the surrounding areas arrive and start to come in and help.
Red wants them to help but he knows that this can be a trap so he orders that only people with medical credentials can stay. They then begin the job of looking for survivors.
Red and the Spook end up together and they look at the collapsed buildings. They know that those ruins contain live bodies as well as dead ones.
This is some serious shit.
As they pass an alley they here someone weeping and they look down it to see a young woman on her knees, she is wearing a yellow sundress and as they draw closer they can see that the red that is on it comes from her fingers which are over her eyes.
Her fingers seem to be bleeding.
Red and Spook run to where she is and they lay her down as they try to get her to take her hands from her eyes.
She keeps repeating something and it is a second before they realize what she is saying.
"My baby, my baby, my baby, my baby...
She keeps repeating it and Red looks up to see a blanket that sits by the overflowing dumpster and he run to it and stops for a fraction of a second. He hears no sound. There is no movement.
He reaches out and takes the blanket into his hands and turns it over.
The babys head looks funny. It has been crushed and Red falls to his knees on the ground and just tries to put this into place.
Yet he cannot find a place for this and he just sits on his knees as the tears flow from his eyes. What the fuck??? He rises from his knees and stands and he does not even know how he got back to where the mother is.
She still sits on the ground with her hands over her eyes and her sobs rock her body.
Red just stands there with the dead child in his arms and Spook looks around and sees him and he instantly knows.
They tell the mother through her sobs that they have her child and she takes her hands from the place where her eyes used to be.
