As Red and the men start to move towards the building he is taking note of all that he sees around him. The shots that fall in the street around them and kick up fragments of particles. The sound of bullets hitting metal.
They are pretty much undetected with all the firepower that is being trained on the building and they make it to the lobby with no casualties. As soon as they get there Red motions for them to get back into two man units and split up. They don the night vision goggles that all of them carry. Since there is no electricity there is no need to think about the elevators and they all go to different staircases and enter. As soon as Red enters the stairwell he looks up thinking that they may have a guard posted.
There is not one and he and Flenardo start to move up the staircase while staying close to the wall.
When he was looking at the building during the first round of fire from his men he noticed that there were no flashes of gunfire coming from the first three floors and he gets on his radio and tells two teams to secure them. All the others are told to go to various floors from the third up. The building is 20 stories tall and he knows that this is going to take awhile.
He calls for a cease fire and from the stairwell he hears the gunfire from outside start to subside as his orders are carried out.
As he moves up the staircase he listens to the sounds of his men who are in the building coming over the earphone that is in his ear. He tells them that he has the third floor and they acknowledge him.
When he reaches the third floor he and Flenardo stand at opposite sides of the door as he uses a piece of a board to push the door open.
Even without gunfire there is noise as pieces of the building fall to the floor and fire crakles around them. They start to move towards the front of the building when all of a sudden a man runs from one of the rooms he is looking the other way and he does not see them until it is to late and they shoot him as he starts to raise his weapon. As soon as they shoot him another man open fire from the shelter of the doorjamb and they fall to opposite sides of the hallway and lay down suppressive fire.
The man ducks into the room and they move closer and closer while making sure to keep firing. When they reach the door they press against the wall and Red motions for Flenardo to stay there and he steps back and just jumps across the door while firing into the room. He is trying to see where the man is and if there are more. He sees gunflashes as he is suspended in the air and the bullets miss him but he sees where his target is and he also sees that there are no more.
He reaches to the clips which hold the grenades on his chest and pulls one loose. He pulls the pen and counts to three before he throws it into the room in the area where he last saw the man. He hears the man start to scramble a split second before the grenade goes off and the concussion of the grenade rocks the floor that they are on. Contrary to what people see a grenade blast is pretty controled unless it contains shrapnel. What they are using here are concussion grenades and they are designed for this purpose.
He and Flenardo wait for a second before they roll into the doorway and look around. They see the body of the man and one of his legs is missing but he is dead. They clear the floor and get on the radio to see if the other units are making positive progress.
He get calls confiming that his units are clearing the floors above them and he and Flenardo move to the stairwell and begin to make their way up when they hear a door open above them and someone starts to shoot down at them. They use the stairs directly above them to shelter them as they move upwards. Red tries to make note of the floor that the shots are coming from and he gets on the radio and calls to one of his men named Michael on the radio. He knows that they are on the floor directly beneath the shooter and he tells them to come to the door and wait until he gives the order for them to enter the stairwell.
He waits until they confirm that they are at the door and he and Flenardo step out and loose a barrage of gunfire and the man ducks back and he gives the order for them to charge. He sees them as they charge out of the door and start to fire up the stairs he sees the man as his body dances and he falls over the rail and his body falls silently to the bottom of the stairwell. The men above him give him the thumbs up and he and Flenardo continue to climb. He keeps getting calls as the floors are cleared. Pretty soon all the teams meet on the 20th floor.
From the radio comes chatter telling him that there are men on the roof..
Red talks into the radio and tells the soldiers outside to fire at the roof and not to fire low.
As soon as he hears the sound of the barrage outside he bursts through the door and rolls right. Flenardo comes behind him and he rolls left. They are lucky.
There are ventilation shafts here and they provide the cover that is needed.
Red and Flenardo start to pick off a couple of the soldiers that are on the roof.
One of them falls back as his brains erupt from the back of the helment that he wears.
As more of Reds men charge out of the door a full firefight breaks out on the roof and one of them is hit in the thigh. Another man grabs his arm and they make it to safety.
Red motions for all his men to take the smoke grenades that they wear from their belts and they do.
This has to be done with precision.
As the smoke begins to cover the roof Red and his men begin to move and spread out. The injured man and another stay behind at the shaft.
They make their way through the smoke and start to pick off the 4 men who are left.
One of the men drops his weapon and surrenders.
When the smoke clears  Red and his men stand victorious and they cheer into the night.
Yet in his heart Red knows that this thing is far from over.
