R+B FOR THE NEW MILLENEUM [POETRY AND MUSIC SERIES]
When I was a child my life revolved around music. My grandfather liked country, my dad the blues, my mom was r+b and my grandmother played the piano at home and church. R+B used to be a music that told the story of our peope in America. The story that R+B tells now seems so faceteous. I do still listen to R+B somtimes yet the singers that I tend to listen to are more neo-soul. Singers like Lyfe Jennings and Anthony Hamilton. Their lyrics still question and probe. In my teen years I really discovered Marvin Gaye. Not the Marvin that the public wanted me to see but the essential Marvin. I found his album HERE MY DEAR I was floored. This is one of the greatest soul albums ever released and the most slept on. The range of emotions displayed is phenomenal and he wrote almost all the lyrics and he did perform all the vocals. So heres my tribute to R+B. THANKS MARVIN.
