Today!!!
Yes today we are going to talk about acceptance and tradition. We are going to talk about class and we are going to talk about some other shit too.
First of all I would like to say to the family of the FAMU band major Robert Champion, condolences in case you dont know about this story here is a link.

Let me also say that the first time I ever saw a band in action it was the Marching 100. I can also tell you who they played that day too.
What is so sad is that we feel its imperative to get our children to fit in. To become a part of something bigger. Thats why they go to college and in an even sadder way thats why they join Fraternities and Sororities.
What must be realized is that these organizations always existed its just that ownership changed hands. From Egyptians who were learned men... scholars to the Greek who turned it into something else entirely.
Notice that I used the word men when I said this. What has happened in fraternities now is that they have become places where children are placed in positions of honor and given power over other children.
Remember 'LORD OF THE FLIES?'
That would even be okay if they were being watched but if you look at the administration of many colleges you find that a whole lot of people up there are former frat member and sorors.
I really dont want this to turn into a lesson in the history of fraternities but I seem to remember FAMU going through an incident almost exactly like this 10 years ago. LINK:http://www.wctv.tv/news/headlines/FAMU_A_History_of_Hazing_134723848.html?ref=848
What is it about this infantile tradition that allows it to exist in our society?
When I was young I was a band member and one of my dreams was to be a member of the Marching One Hundred. When I started going to the practices and seeing the members being beaten and hit by other members I knew it was not for me. I came from the projects and I woulda killed me a motherfucker for some shit like that.
The whole administration at Famu needs to be fired and the leaders of the "band frat" needs to be sued as well and his whole organization along with him, but we know thats not going to happen because a whole lot of government officials are also "affiliated" so to speak.
This is even carried on in masonic traditions as well where grown
peoplen feel the need to be a part of something secret that they could have gotten anyway if they studied and paid attention
The sad thing is that the general public is so passive about this thing that it continues to happen again and again.
The next time it could be your child, Your niece, your nephew, your grandchild.
Your future.
